I started the process by conducting user interviews with existing students. The research identified and confirmed pain points of the learning app. Real time course tracking was added to help students easily identify where they left off in the curriculum because it was a major friction point. After gathering all qualitative data, I began sketching a few solutions and further developed the wireframes and user flow. While I was developing the wireframes, I met with the engineers to make sure the solutions were technically feasible. The visual design consisted of illustrations, iconography and user interface. One goal of the new design was making it accessible on the desktop or an iPad.
